Errata and Additions: From Home and From Away
Volume 1 From Home and From Away: The Descendants of Charles MacKinnon and Christina Cameron
Many thanks to all those who have let me know about errors, with particular thanks to Leo MacDonald of O’Leary, P.E.I. who has done a wonderful job of cross-referencing and querying discrepancies between entries. My apologies to anyone to whom I inadvertently gave a birthdate that pre-dates their parents’ marriage. In the on-line version of the errata and additions, I am only giving the birth year for new additions to the clan, and birth dates are referenced by what page the correct date is located on.
2011 – Many new resources have become available, especially through the LDS site, Family Search.org, which includes images of Montana marriages, Massachusetts deaths, Delaware births, and information on New Jersey births and marriages

At one point, his mother was arrested for bootlegging, but Melvin took the rap and went to prison. According to his step-grandson, he wrote ‘The Prisoner Song’, recorded by Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow, among others (although credit is given to Guy Massey). Here are the lyrics:
Oh, I wish I had someone to love me, Yes, someone to call me their own
Oh, I wish I had someone to live with ‘Cause I’m tired of living alone.
Oh, please meet me tonight in the moonlight, Oh, please meet me tonight all alone
For I have a sad story to tell you It’s a story that’s never been told.
I’ll be carried to the new jail tomorrow, Leaving my poor darling alone
With the cold prison bars all around me, And my head on a pillow of stone.
Now, I have a grand ship on the ocean, All mounted with silver and gold
And before my poor darling would suffer, Oh, that ship would be anchored and sold.
Now if I had the wings like an angel, Over these prison walls I would fly
And I’d fly to the arms of my darling, And there I’d be willing to die…
Ethel had been orphaned, and had been previously married. She had a daughter, Marjorie, whose left her newborn son, Benjamin Mahoney, with Ethel and Melvin, after he was born. Benjamin remembers Melvin as very patient and fun-loving, but liked his drink. Melvin died 9 January 1981 after suffering two strokes. He is buried in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, N.H. Ethel later married Everett Chandler, and died 1 December 2002 in Concord, N.H.
